Why cashmere black is rarely jet black
Chyangra goats grow cream, grey and brown fibre, never white. Dyeing it jet black takes so much dye that the fibre loses some of its softness. So most black cashmere is really a very dark charcoal, and ours is named for what you will see in daylight.
What to wear it with
- Grey or charcoal trousers. The safest choice. The warm cast keeps it from looking like a uniform.
- Dark denim and dark brown boots. A good pairing. Black boots make the sweater look softer by comparison.
- A tweed or grey jacket. Good. Skip a navy jacket: black and navy together look accidental.

Who it suits

No. Charcoal Black is a near-black with a warm, soft cast. It looks black indoors and a touch softer in daylight, so it will not match jet-black tailoring exactly.
What is the difference between Charcoal Black and Midnight?
Midnight is a near-black with a hint of purple, like a very dark aubergine. It comes on the crew neck and V-neck under its own name. If you want black, choose Charcoal Black.
Does black cashmere show pilling more than other colours?
It shows it more, it does not pill more. Pale fibres, lint and hair all stand out on a dark sweater. Lift pills with a cashmere comb, never a razor.
Can I wear a black sweater under a navy jacket?
